IN THICKET DETROIT
We’re excited to be hosting one of the best reading series in Detroit for their October event. Field Trip brings together one out of town writer along with two local talents. Temporal Anomalies, is available from Ricochet Editions. His second book, Deeper the Tropics, is available from BUNNY Presse/Fonograf Editions
Matt Broaddus is a writer and artist coming in from Colorado to read selected works. He’s published two full length books of poetry, Temporal Anomalies (Ricochet Editions) and Deeper the Tropics (BUNNY Presse/Fonograf Editions), as well as two chapbooks, Two Bolts (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2021) and Space Station (Letter [r] Press, 2018). His poetry has appeared many places.
Lia Greenwell is a Detroit based author (and our shop neighbor during her day job!), whose writing has appeared in the Kenyon Review Online, Missouri Review, Waxwing, and the Southern Humanities Review. She’s also the author of the upcoming book, How to Be Afraid: A Memoir and Investigation (Graywolf, 2027), that we can’t wait to stock in the store.
Rachel Harkai is also a Detroit-based writer whose work explores voice, meaning, and human experience. Her writings and interviews have appeared in many publications, such as Narrative Magazine, Salmagundi, Michigan Quarterly Review, DIAGRAM, Smartish Pace, amongst others.

We welcome work of all sizes and materials as long as the work is “nice to books”! (i.e. not sticky, not full of bugs etc.) and community friendly. Bookends typically come in pairs, and meant to be sturdy because they will be handled, but do with that what you will. We cannot insure your artwork, but we will do our best to see that the work is handled kindly.
The bookstore will serve as gallerist, hosting the reception, staffing the exhibition, and handling sales. As work sells, collectors will take their purchases home. Artists will receive 80% of purchase price and In Thicket will take 20% to cover their costs. Payments will be made at the end of November and end of December. Questions? A note for out of town artists: unfortunately we can't cover shipping. We'd love you to participate and you may ship your own work to the store, and if you include a prepaid return shipping label, we will mail your work back to you if it doesn't sell during the show.

We’ll be open before, during and after the festival opening party for Detroit Month of Design. The party will start at River Trail, the new public park just 2 block northwest of the store, from 5-7pm, followed by the Little Village Design Crawl from 7-9pm, with the after party at Father Forgive Me. Join us in kicking off this incredible celebration of art and design. With Detroit at the center of it all.

A CONVERSATION

As part of the Cadillac Art Centre Open House for Detroit Month of Design, join us for a moderated conversation with three artists who make stunning objects: Iris Eichenberg, head of the metalsmith department at Cranbrook, Scott Klinker, designer who is celebrating the release of his upcoming book, Fine Design: A Studio Guide to Remixing Design, Art, Craft and Industry, and Kyle Stahler of Camber Woodworks.
They will be discussing their process, inspirations, material concerns, inspirations, and the tactile sense of design.

There’s no off street parking, but typically there’s a ton of street parking available on both Cadillac and St Paul.

Almost all events are free. If, for some reason they are not, we’ll be very transparent about pricing and where the money will go.
