Smithsonian Institution Press, 1977. Paperback, quarto, 111 pp., illustrated throughout in blacks & white and color. Some uneven sunning to spine and wraps with scuffing to edges. Good overall, with near fine internals.
The Spiral Jetty photography book by Gianfranco Gorgoni on the wall at the store has inspired many enlightening conversations, so here we present a book on Land Art as it was happening, before the cannons were set. This is a exhibition catalogue from 1977 of photographs and drawings by many of the prominent artists of the movement—Smithson, Morris, Holt, Long, Heizer, et al. What is particularly interesting is the unrealized projects, like Smithson’s Texas Overflow (Sulfur version) or Simond’s Growth House. As we walk around the River Trail (as mentioned above), we can’t help but think of movement and sight that land art brings to its viewers.
